Suits For The Races

Opt for a lighter suit

When deciding the colour of your suit it is important to know that the races are a special event where you can break the conventional rules. You probably wouldn’t choose to wear a lighter coloured suit to the office, or for a formal evening – but the races are your perfect opportunity to try something new.

Light colours such as cream suit darker complexions and can be accessorised easily. If you do decide to opt for a lighter coloured suit, we recommend sticking with a white shirt and contrasting it with a dark tieOur selection of lighter coloured suits, as modelled by Chris Hughes are the ideal choice for Aintree and other race days. You can get the full look below, including the finishing touches and accessories.

Traditional in tweed

If you are searching for a suit for the races that is slightly more traditional in style – we have you covered too! Our race day edit couldn’t go by without us showcasing our selection of tweed suits.

The rich and deep hue of the tweed collection gives a quintessential and charming look and at Cavani, we have a selection of tweed designs for you to choose from. If you are searching for a suit that transitions the gap between smart and comfortable – a suit from the tweed range is the perfect choice. Especially for Aintree, you need to consider the weather and tweed can provide you with enough warmth for the unpredictable British weather.

Races Dress Code

Depending on which racecourse you are attending, what day you are attending and where you will be standing you will find that the suggested dress code changes. Whilst there is no official dress code for the Grand National, it is advised that you wear smart attire (we’ll get into that later). To make sure you turn up in the correct attire, here are some general race tips that you can follow:

  • Do not wear jeans. - the races are a special event and a time when you can show off your taste for sophisticated clothing.

  • Smart shoes – don’t wear trainers. At Cavani, we have affordable and stylish smart shoes that you can wear for race day and afterwards.

  • Men are advised to wear suits. This changes from racecourse to racecourse, but as a general rule and to make sure that you look the part – wear a suit!
